Terms of Use
Last updated
These terms are an agreement between you and Jazz (“Handback”, “we”, “us”) for your use of the Handback app and this website. By using Handback, you agree to them. Please also read our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle your data.
1. Who can use Handback
You must be old enough to agree to a contract where you live. If you are not, a parent or guardian must agree to these terms for you.
2. What Handback is
Handback helps you photograph the condition of something when you receive it and when you give it back: a rental car, a home, a short stay, or items you hand over. For each photo, our evidence service records a fingerprint (SHA-256) and the time it received it, in an append-only chain, and Apple App Attest is used to confirm the photo came from the genuine app on a real iPhone. You can share a file through a link that shows the photos and lets anyone check that they have not changed.
Handback records when a photo reached our server and that it has not changed since. It cannot show what is outside the frame, or prove what happened before or after the photo was taken. A photo added from your library is recorded with the time you added it and is marked as not taken in Handback.
3. Not legal advice, and no promised outcome
Handback is not a law firm, and nothing in the app or on this website is legal advice. Our guides, checklists and any dispute letter templates the app offers are general information and templates for you to adapt. They may not fit your contract, your country or your state, and laws change. For advice on your situation, talk to a qualified professional or a consumer or tenant advice service.
We don’t promise any outcome. A rental company, landlord, platform, deposit scheme, card issuer or court decides for itself how much weight to give a record, and it may give it none. You are responsible for the decisions you make and for meeting any deadlines that apply to you.
4. Your files and shared links
- Your files live on your phone. If you delete the app, lose your phone or delete a file, we cannot recover its photos, because we never had them unless you shared that file. Back up your iPhone.
- Sharing. When you share a file, its photos are uploaded and shown to anyone who has the link. You decide who gets it. You can withdraw the link at any time; anything someone already saved or downloaded is outside our control.
- The record. Records in the evidence chain are permanent by design, so that they can be checked later. See the Privacy Policy for what we delete on request.
- Availability. We aim to keep shared links working for as long as you need them, but we can’t promise the service will be available at every moment.
5. Files, credits and the yearly plan
- First file. Your first file is free and works like any other file, including its link.
- One-time files. A trip file (car, short stay or items) uses one file credit; a move file (a home) is sold as its own purchase and uses the credits it includes. Credits are added when Apple confirms the purchase and used when you start a new file.
- Yearly plan. The yearly plan gives you unlimited files while it is active. Files you made during the plan stay yours, with their links, after it ends.
- No cash value. Credits are a licence to use a feature of Handback. They are not money, have no cash value, and cannot be transferred, sold or exchanged.
- Billing by Apple. Purchases are made through your Apple Account and are subject to Apple’s terms. Payment is charged when you confirm the purchase. Prices are shown in the app before you buy.
- Auto-renewal. The yearly plan renews automatically at the same price and length unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for renewal within the 24 hours before the period ends.
- Cancelling. Cancel any time in your iPhone’s Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions. You keep the plan until the end of the year you paid for. Deleting the app does not cancel the plan.
- Refunds. Payments are non-refundable except where required by law. Refund requests are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
- Price changes. If the yearly price changes, Apple will tell you in advance and, where required, ask for your agreement.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to use Handback to:
- break the law, or share anything illegal;
- create a false record, for example by photographing a different car or home than the one you name, or by staging damage;
- photograph people without the right to do so, or put other people’s private information on a shared link;
- harass, threaten or deceive anyone with a shared link;
- interfere with the evidence service, get around App Attest or payments, or use bots, scripts or scraping;
- reverse engineer or overload Handback, or access the service other than through the app or a shared link.
7. Your content
Your photos and notes are yours. When you share a file, you give us permission to store it and show it to people who have the link, only as needed to run Handback and meet legal obligations. You confirm that you have the right to share what you upload.
8. Changes to Handback
We may change, add or remove features. If we make a change that materially reduces what the yearly plan includes, we will tell you in advance. If we ever stop offering Handback, we will give you reasonable notice, and you can save your files from your phone before shared links stop working.
9. Ending your use
You can stop using Handback at any time. We may suspend or end access to the evidence service for an install that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms, if the law requires it, or if we stop offering Handback. Where reasonable, we will tell you first.
10. Disclaimers
Handback is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the extent the law allows, we make no promise that it will be uninterrupted, error-free or secure, that a record will be accepted by anyone, or that a guide or template will suit your situation.
11. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential losses, including a deposit kept, a charge you had to pay or a dispute you lost. Our total liability to you for any claim relating to Handback is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, or your statutory rights as a consumer.
12. Apple
These terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for Handback or its content, and has no obligation to provide maintenance or support. If Handback fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any) for the app; to the extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation. Apple is not responsible for addressing any claims relating to Handback, including product liability, legal or regulatory claims, or claims that Handback infringes someone’s intellectual property. You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a US government embargo and are not on any US government list of prohibited or restricted parties. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Türkiye. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and you may bring a claim in the courts there.
14. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms, we will update the date at the top of this page. If a change is significant, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect. If you keep using Handback after that, the new terms apply.
