Proof for anything you hand back

It was like that when you got it. Now you can show it.

Handback is an iPhone app for the moment you pick up a rental car, get the keys to a flat, or hand your things to movers. Take guided photos. Each one gets a timestamp from our server. Later, send one link that anyone can check.

Who it’s for

One app for every handover.

Download it once. Open it at the rental counter, on moving day, at check-in. Each handover is a file with two halves: when you got it, and when you gave it back.

Rental cars

Walk around the car before you drive off

18 guided shots: each corner, all four wheels, the windshield, the seats, mileage and fuel. Do it again when you drop the car off.

Moving in and out

Every room, at the start and at the end

Walls, floors, kitchen, bathroom, meters and keys. The same list at move-out, so every before has an after.

Airbnb and hotels

A short check when you arrive

Bed, furniture, bathroom and anything already broken. Two minutes, and it is on record before you unpack.

Items and movers

Each piece, before it leaves your hands

Everything together, then each piece close up, with labels and serial numbers. For movers, storage, or lending something valuable.

How the proof works

A photo on your camera roll has a date you could have changed. These don’t.

  1. Shot in the app’s own camera

Photos are taken inside Handback, not picked from your library. A photo added from the library is still kept, but its record says it was not taken in Handback.

  2. Fingerprinted and timestamped

The app computes a SHA-256 fingerprint of each photo and sends it to our evidence service. The service stamps it with its own clock, not your phone’s, and adds it to an append-only chain where each record carries the fingerprint of the one before.

  3. Checked against a real iPhone

Apple App Attest confirms the record came from the genuine Handback app on a real device. The record shows whether that check passed.

  4. One link anyone can open

Share a file and you get one link. The other side sees the photos, the server time of each one, and whether each photo still matches its fingerprint. No account, no app needed. You can withdraw the link at any time.

Your photos stay on your phone

Until you share a file, only fingerprints and times leave your phone. Not the photos. Location is off by default, and when you turn it on it is rounded to about 100 m first. Share a file and its photos are uploaded so the link can show them. Withdraw the link and they stop showing. Privacy Policy

Pricing

Pay when there’s something to protect.

Most people need Handback a few times a year, so most of it is paid per file, once. A deposit or a damage bill is usually hundreds. A file is a few dollars.

First file

Free

Any kind of file, with the same verification link. The letter and PDF unlock for one credit.

Trip file

$4.99

One car rental, Airbnb, hotel stay or handover of items. Includes the dispute letter and PDF. Paid once.

Move file

$14.99

One home, room by room, at move-in and move-out. Includes the letter and PDF. Paid once.

US prices. The App Store shows the price in your currency before you pay. Every file, free or paid, gets the same verification link.

Questions people ask

What does the other side see when I send a link?

A page on handback.jazzyazilim.com with the file’s title, kind and place, and each photo in order, at pickup and at return. Next to each photo is the time our server received its fingerprint, whether the device passed Apple’s App Attest check, and whether the photo still matches that fingerprint. They do not need an account or the app.

Can’t someone just say the photo was edited?

They can say it, but the record makes it checkable. The fingerprint was stored on our server the moment the photo was taken, with the server’s own time. Change one pixel and the fingerprint no longer matches. Anyone can drop a copy of a photo on the link page to check it; the check runs in their browser.

Will a rental company or a landlord accept it?

We can’t promise that. Nobody can decide in advance how a company, a deposit scheme or a court weighs a photo. What Handback adds is a time you did not set yourself and proof the photos were not changed later. That is usually what a dated photo on your camera roll is missing.

What if the other side still says I did it?

Handback has two tools for that. A dispute letter template that cites your record and asks for the evidence behind their charge, which you can edit before you send it. And a PDF of the whole record, with every photo, its times and its fingerprint, for forms that only take attachments. The letter is a template, not legal advice.

Does Handback upload all my photos?

No. While a file is private, only each photo’s fingerprint, the time, the file’s kind, title and place, and an approximate location if you turned it on leave your phone. Photos are uploaded only when you share that file, and only that file’s photos.

How much does it cost?

Your first file is free. After that a trip file (car, Airbnb, hotel or items) is $4.99, a move file for a home is $14.99, and the yearly plan with unlimited files is $29.99. Prices are in US dollars and the App Store shows the local price before you pay.
